I Didn’t Even Notice You Leaving is a production about the moment when previous connections are severed and future prospects seem as dim as an extinct star. On stage, there are people who express their mundane longings and nutty theories, who talk about unwashed windows and adulteries, wakes and communists, economic growth and the Titanic. It is a play that a more refined critic might describe as “a loopy potpourri”, “a sick teardown” or “melancholic musings”. The production draws from Cristi Puiu’s film Sieranevada, Bora Ćosić’s novel My Family’s Role in the World Revolution, and elsewhere. Directed by Lauri Lagle, it features Marika Vaarik, Eva Koldits, Rea Lest, Simeoni Sundja, Sander Roosimägi, Alex Paul Pukk, Joonas Koff, Uku Pokk and Joosep Lõhmus.
With its largest cast to date, the Expedition Theatre will bring to the stage numerous grotesque, foolish, absurd and abstract scenes, demonstrating the kaleidoscopic nature of the hysterical moment. In contrast to Chekhovian lethargy, the characters in this production are full of intense yearnings, loud claims, endless dissatisfaction and the desire to gain something, but what, they no longer know.
